On the occasion of this festival, the flowers have become costly in the Chennai market. It must be noted that the flowers in the retail outlets in Chennai have surged due to huge demand. It was mentioned by some flower traders that the supply has increased by more than 25% now.
Now, jasmine flower is being sold at Rs 70 a yard and arali poo is being sold at Rs 80 for 200gms. Native varieties of roses are being sold at Rs 70 per pack. From the wholesale or retail market in TN, the majority of the vendors purchased flowers. It was mentioned by a trader at the Koyambedu market that the cost of the flowers has doubled now. He added that since Thursday there has been an increased supply of flowers at the market.

To meet the demand now, hybrid varieties of flowers are also purchased by many flower vendors. Truth is that the hybrid varieties of chrysanthemum or sevanthi poo looks good and many buy it as these flowers are cheap plus have a longer shelf life etc.
