The flu season began since monsoon has set in. The state health department is gearing up to tackle waterborne disease cases that are expected to flood hospitals.
Health officials have held several review meetings and have come up with strategies that include use of SMS and e-mail. The directorate of public health (DPH) has deployed health inspectors in districts. Hospitals across the state have been recording cases of dengue, Chikungunya, typhoid and leptospirosis. Doctors at Government General Hospital in Chennai have set up a ward for dengue. GH dean Dr Kanagasabai said, “Fever cases usually go up 30% during the monsoon.”
