Housing plot permits cannot be issued by Gram Panchayat Heads
The Tamil Nadu Government has issued an order that the Gram Panchayat Heads cannot issue permits for housing plots purchase. This would be with immediate effect.
It is understood that
housing plots have been put up for sale by various agencies all over Tamil Nadu
with permits issued by Gram Panchayat heads. Some of the plots do not have clearance
permits for sale and the ignorant public who bought such plots are unable to
proceed with construction thus getting cheated.

Collector, Mr. Karunakaran informed:The government has already issued clear
orders and instructions regarding sales of housing plots in the village
panchayaths valid for entire Tamil Nadu. According to this, Gram Panchayst head
is not authorized to issue permits for housing plot sales. The respective city
or village administrative councils only are authorized to issue permits.
For residential construction over 4000 sq ft and commercial buildings over 2000 sq ft, the concerned city or village administrative council should issue the permit and after this only the Gram Panchayat Head can approve the transaction.Constructions without the proper permits will not be given any facilities such as drinking water, electricity, streets or roads, etc.
