Electricity from Food Garbage – Commencing in Pallavaram Municipality

The Pallavaram municipality has planned to initiate a program on producing the electricity from food wastages. The program is going to be initiated with 90 Lakhs in the 22nd ward Iswarya nagar, Pallavaram under the Integrated Urban Development Plan. As per plan, this unit will generate about 420 to 440 units of electricity, and hence it helps in lightening 40 watts bulb in around 480 streets from evening 6 PM to Morning 6AM.

This plant need around 5 tom of food wastage. The Pallavaram municipality is getting 110 ton of wastage daily. In that about 60 percent will be compostable garbage and 20 percent is food waste. And this 20 percent food wastage will be used for the electricity plant.

The officials stated that, in Pallavaram, thers are about 18 big hotels, 17 Marriage mandapams and 34 small hotels. Additionally many small tiffen centers are also available. Hence this plan will get initiated in one or two week as this will be helpful in saving the electricity and money as well.
