CMRL web site has posted the progress on Chennai Metro Rail .Construction of an underground metro station at Shenoy Nagar is fast progressing, Of the required excavation of 51,500 cubic metres, 49,800 cubic metres have been completed.
By the end of January, CMRL completed 32% of the required tunnelling work for the underground section.948m of tunneling between Nehru Park and Egmore station is over. Work hasn`t yet started in certain stretches like Pachaiyappa`s College to Shenoy Nagar and Kilpauk to Nehru Park.
Metro officials are gearing up for the longest test run in the overhead section, between Koyambedu and Ashok Pillar.
The project faced a setback with the cancellation of a contract between CMRL and Consolidated Construction Consortium Ltd. Officials have asked other contractors to pitch in.
