Uma Maheswari, an employee of Tata Consultancy Services ( TCS) was murdered  at the Sipcot IT Park in Siruseri, on the outskirts of Chennai. The Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department on Tuesday claimed to have solved the murder of a software engineer in Chennai by arresting two migrant construction workers.

The two construction workers, identified as Ram Mandal and Utham Mandal (both hailing from West Bengal), had confessed to raping and murdering Uma Maheswari, an employee of Tata Consultancy Services ( TCS). Police have launched a hunt for two others involved in the crime.

The four workers, who were on an inebriated condition, saw Uma walking down the road after 10pm on February 13. There was no proper lighting and it was a secluded area. They dragged her into nearby bushes and sexually assaulted her. They stabbed Uma on her stomach and neck and left the dead body in the bushes.

The decomposed body was recovered on February 22, nine days after the crime.

Though Uma`s father Balasubramanian, who works as a drawing teacher at a government school, lodged a police complaint with the Kelambakkam police, they didn`t probe the case. Kelambakkam police inspector Subbiah was placed under suspension for his alleged failure to act on the complaint of the victim`s father.
