The toll gate charges will be increased from tomorrow.There are 41 toll gates in Tamil Nadu.29 are maintained by private agencies.12 are maintained by National Highways Corporation.
The rates were revised upwards for 21 toll-gates during September last year. Consequently, the rates for omni buses, taxis, and goods trucks were increased.
Now, the rates at toll-gates are being increased from tomorrow, Wednesday, 1st April, for 18 toll-gates at Suarappattu, Vaanagaram, Paranur, Aathur, Krishnagiri, Salaipudhur, Pallikonda, Vaniyambadi, Etturvattam, Kappalur, Nanguneri, Pudukkottai, Sittampatti, Bhuthakkudi, Lemnalakkudi, Lakshminampatti, Sriperumpudhur, and Chennasamudhiram.
This may lead to another increase in the fares of omni-buses and taxis.
The toll charges are being increased from Rs. 39/- to Rs. 44/- for cars and from Rs. 139/- to Rs. 155/- for trucks/lorries.
The Lorry owners have planned to go on strike protesting against this increase.
