Scientists say online activity and computer games not harmful

Scientists at the Lincoln College in Oxford  and the University College in London have said that there is no scientific evidence that adolescents` brain function can be damaged by using the internet or playing computer games.

Say the experts, Social networking sites could negatively affect social interaction, interpersonal empathy, and personal identity, however, there (is) currently no proof from neuroscience studies don`t support that... (The claims that there is an effect) are not based on a fair scientific appraisal of the evidence and are misleading to parents and the public at large... Bulk of research did not support the characterisation.

The researchers, however, did agree that there are concerns about digital technology. But they also said that that was not connected to the above debate. They said that one of the main concerns was online safety and that this needed to be tackled at individual, community, industry and policy levels.
