Chennai Corporation Scheme: Prizes for paying Property Tax on time

Chennai Corporation has been levying and collecting Properties twice a year.
There are 11.70 Lakh Property owners and commercial organisations have been paying property tax.
A meeting of Corporation officials was conducted regarding the regularisation of Property Taxes and collecting them without any backlogs.
5% discount is proposed to be offered for those who pay the property tax before deadline with a maximum of Rs. 5000/-. As an example, Rs. 5000/- discount will be offered to the property tax payment of Rs. 1 Lakh.
The deadlines for the 2 payments in the year have been fixed between 1st and 15th April & 1st & 15th October. The persons who pay the property tax within this period will get the above-mentioned concession.
A fine or penalty of 2% month will be levied on failure to pay property tax within the deadline.
This proposal by Chennai Corporation has been sent to the Financial Commission`s recommendation. Once approval is given, this proposal will be implemented.
