A study published in the journal Computers in Human Behaviour has said that too much time spent online can cause cognitive failures. This includes memory loss, the tendency forget small things or daydream. The study was conducted to study the effects of the excessive internet or mobile phone use on cognitive failures. It was conducted by researchers at De Montfort University at Leicester.
107 men and 103 women were tested. They were between 18 and 65 years of age, and spent an average of 23 hours a week online.
Say researchers, With the growing culture of bring-your-own device to work, the propensity for distraction from primary tasks towards the communicative, entertainment and social networking elements offered by such devices is still unknown... If a clear link can be demonstrated to exist between levels of engagement with digital media and daily lapses in attention it is possible that suitable preventative measures could be taken to ensure that such errors are negated or limited.
