LPG Subsidy Scheme achieves Guinness World Record

The Central government`s LPG subsidy scheme has earned the record for `Largest Cash Benefit Program (Households)` with the Guinness Book of World Records.
On behalf of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Bharat Petroleum had applied for the record in June this year. According to the application, oil companies had got 80% of their consumers to join the scheme. Rs. 198.5 billion was transferred into the banks of 125.7 million consumers across the country. As of August, the scheme boasts of over 139 million customers and a transfer amount of Rs. 236.18 billion.
