Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed that a depression has formed in the Bay of Bengal. Because of this, there are prospects of rain for the next 3 days in a few places in Tamil Nadu.

The temperature in sea surface of Pacific Ocean indicates many ups & downs in a given time interval. This is known as El Nino phenomenon.

Geographic experts have mentioned that El Nino could be one of the reasons for the higher than the average rainfall in Tamil Nadu including Chennai in the recent North-east Monsoon.

They have also indicated that though Northeast Monsoon has ended, prospects of rain exist even till  April due to El Nino phenomenon.

The depression, which formed in Bay of Bengal a few days ago, has now stabilised in the region of Southwest Bay of Bengal & near Sri Lanka.

Apart from this depression, there is a air-convection formed at higher strata in the area of Ocean near Kanyakumari, Maldives, and Lakhdives. This has led to some rains in a few places in Tamil Nadu.
