Ola and Uber - the two leading cab services in India have stepped up fares in Bengaluru. This is due to the latest implementation of structure by Karnataka transport department as announced on 9th January.
As per plans, the increase in rate was likely to take place in January, but as the government needed minor changes, it has to get delayed and the revision is now done in March.
The amended notification as issued on 3rd March shall be implemented now, and it is mandatory for cab aggregators to abide by the same, says the transport commissioner B. Dayananda.
According to the new structure, the minimum and maximum fares shall be set based on vehicle cost.
The new rates
The minimum rate to be quoted for cars of less than Rs 5 lakh worth is Rs 44. And for every extra kilometer travelled, the maximum and minimum fare should be Rs 24 and Rs 11 respectively.
The minimum rate to be quoted for cars of worth ranging between Rs 5 and 10 lakh, the quote is Rs 52 for the first 4 kilometers travelled and for each and every additional kilometer, the minimum and maximum fares are Rs 12 and Rs 24 respectively.
For vehicles that are priced above Rs 16 lakh, the price for first 4 kilometers will be Rs 80 and the minimum and maximum fares from there on will be Rs 20 and Rs 45 respectively.
The Transport Commissioner B. Dayananda had announced on Tuesday that Ola has undertaken this revised fares. In one or two days, Uber is likely to follow the footsteps of Uber.
No waiting charge for first 20 minutes
Furthermore, in the first 20 minutes, no waiting charge will be applicable and after these minutes, Rs 10 will be charged for every 15 minutes.
Drivers go on strike
Since Monday, drivers of the two app-based taxi services have gone on strike to show their opposition against their respective companies.
Lastly, vehicles of very high range of Rs 10 to Rs 16 lakh shall charge Rs 68 for the first 4 kilometers and Rs 16 per km as minimum charged or every additional kilometer and Rs 34 as the maximum rate.
