Prices of vegetables up in Koyambedu market

As the intensity of heat keeps rising in the summer in the neighbouring states, the arrival of vegetables has reduced in quantity. This has led to an increase in the prices of the vegetables.

As of yesterday, the details of prices of vegetables in Rs. per kg in the Chennai Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market:

Beans – 40, broad beans – 25, lady’s finger (okra) and bitter gourd – 20, beetroot – 15, green chilli – 14, snake gourd – 12, tomato – 10, onion – 13, sambar (small) onion – 30, brinjal – 15, potato – 22, radish – 12, cabbage – 7, carrot – 16, and drumstick – 18.

In this regard, the Koyambedu Vegetable Traders’ Association members explained that with the increasing heat intensity and summer rains, the arrival of vegetables has reduced in quantity. Whenever there is such shortfall in the arrival quantity, the prices of the vegetables trend to increase.
