Subsequently, the work came to a standstill for a period of 1 year. This led to a great hardship to the vehicle drivers and the public who suffered from severe traffic jams. After a gap, another company was chosen to resume the project work and now the balance work is in rapid progress.
When enquiring with the Chennai Metro Rail officials, they explained:
As the construction work in the section between DMS and the Little Mount has been completed, the barriers erected have now been removed and the road relaying work is in progress. All the pending activities will be completed in a months time. So, the traffic congestion experienced by the vehicle drivers and the public will now reduce gradually and normalcy will be restored. Naturally, this news has delighted both the vehicle drivers and the public as they can now travel with the reduced traffic congestion.
