Buses and trains operate in Chennai with police protection

Buses were operated as usual in Chennai today (Friday, 25th May) with police protection. Over 20000 police staff has been deployed for this.

During the police shooting against the public who protested against Sterlite in Thoothukudi, 13 persons have died. Several others were seriously injured.

Strongly protesting against this, the various political parties, students, Tamil enthusiasts, and others are joining together.

In this scenario, the opposition party (DMK) leader and the working president Stalin had invited for a full-scale protest today (Friday, 25th May)  against the shooting and for the ruling AIADMK to resign.

However, the buses and trains operated as usual in the Chennai Metro City. A fewer number of buses are being operated in other districts in the state. As for the shops, except for a few shops, all other shops remained closed.

As the union members of the transport employees unions of opposition parties did not attend duty, the representatives of the ruling party union members operated the buses.

In a similar trend, though the members of Employees; Progressive Union and CITU auto drivers are on strike as a protest, the other auto drivers not belonging to these unions were operating their autos.

Shops were open in Koyambedu market, T Nagar, Parrys Corner, and other important urban parts of the city. Only a few shops were closed. The hotels, tea shops, grocery shops, cell phone shops, and the petrol bunks were opened.

The police staff was deployed in all the important locations of the Chennai Metro City, Additional police were deployed in areas such as the Chief Secretariat, DGPs office, Marina beach, railway stations, and bus depots.

Police staff were deployed in the roads and streets of commercial centres and shops. Over 20000 police staff has been deployed. Because of the public strike, the day-to-day activities of the public have not been disturbed to a great extent. The trains operated as usual.
