Launch of Train ticket booking on UTS Application at station premises

Posted on: 25/May/2018 12:31:18 PM
Till now the train tickets booked through Unified Ticketing System (UTS) App can be done only outside the railway station premises, due to the Geo-fencing system. Now the Southern Railway Chief Commercial Manager Priamvada Viswanathan officially announced that it will launch booking option through scanning of QR-code using the UTS App inside the station.

The UTS app is used for booking tickets in unreserved compartments, monthly passes and also for suburban trains. Considering the restriction of the geo-fencing method of booking tickets only outside the railway station, the Southern Railways started to develop a new program for booking tickets through UTS app inside the railway station.

Reports from the officials said that there are many plans to promote the UTS app ticket booking among the public to avoid long queues in the direct ticket counter. Fixing QR codes scanning option for booking tickets is one such way to implement the distributed technology for ticket bookings.

New Offer

The current way of working model in UTS app relies on GPS facility linked to geo-fencing mechanism. After QR code installation the commuters can avoid GPS and Geo-fencing options to book tickets in the station. Also to promote the App booking the Southern Railways offers a 5% bonus for every recharge made via R-wallet (Railway Wallet) from May 24.

A whopping 2 lakh tickets in unreserved compartments were booked through the app after the launch of the Mobile Application. Railway Department announced in a press conference about the Sales Revenue from over 12 lakh passengers booking through UTS app for unreserved tickets crossed Rs 80.55 Lakh.

Southern Railways will install QR code scanning option in more than 700 railway stations without any fixed time frame. The plan of QR code bookings will be executed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS).
