Yet another toll plaza from today

The route along Mathur Manali Ennore Express Highway is all set to start collecting toll from Wednesday, today, as a new toll gate is set up. This is being executed among sever opposition by motorists and truckers association.

As this comes to existence, the Chennai outskirts will have a total of 4 toll plaza right within 20 km radius.

This new toll gate lies at a distance of 3 km from the Surapattu toll plaza that lies on Chennai bypass road, 5km from Nallur Toll gate that lies on Chennai to Tada Road, and at 20 km distance from the Vanagaram Toll which lies on Chennai Bypass road.

Under the Ennore Manali Road Improvement Project or the EMRIP, these aforementioned 4 roads are developed, covering a distance of 28.33km at an estimated cost of Rs 600 crore.

This EMRIP stretch encompasses Manali Ennore Expressway, and the north of Inner Ring Road, Manali oil refinery road and the Thiruvottiyur to Ponneri to Panchetty road.

Works to lie roads along the route was carried out by the Chennai Ennore Port Road Company Limited.

According to a  gazette notification rolled out by the State Government dated 1st October 2018, the CEPRCL or other agencies that fall under it shall have the authority to collect user free at Mathur toll plaza until gathering the project cost. For motorists, the toll will be Rs 35 to  Rs 215 at Mathur.
