Senior citizens would remember how the multi-storey LIC building in Mount Road was regarded as the iconic building of Chennai.
This is 2021 and now it is said that Pattinapakkam in Chennai would have the iconic building of Chennai. On Wednesday, 1st September 2021, the minister for housing and urban development Mr. S. Muthuswamy made many heads turn when he announced that Chennai city’s iconic building would come up at Pattinapakkam or Foreshore Estate.
Point is that the building would be built on 25.16acre land here. The minister spoke about how the complex would be constructed in collaboration with Singapore like country and the studies for this have been going on. He added that the trees present here in the 25 acres of land now would be uprooted and replanted in another place. The housing department would also plant 10 saplings per tree. With the construction of the iconic building in Pattinapakkam, the residents would feel happy. It is revealed that after getting public opinion, GCC would be expanded by adding a few parts of Arakkonam, Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur districts. This would be carried out to meet the infrastructural requirements and due to expeditious growth in the areas lying adjacent to Chennai.
As many as143 villages around Chennai has been identified by the housing and urban development department because these villages remained underdeveloped. The lack of roads was cited as the reason for the underdevelopment. To lay roads in these 143 villages, a special scheme would be implemented. This was according to the minister.
