The traffic along the Anna Salai and the adjoining roads went out of control on Monday, 30th October. The reason for that was due to the Thevar Jayanthi celebrations that took place at Nandanam. It must be noted that the members of various political parties and social outfits crowded near the Thevar statue at Nandanam . The vehicles parked on the roadside in a haphazard manner created many issues.
Half of the road was blocked and a single lane was available for the movement of the vehicles on the Chamiers Road. It must be taken into note that on the Anna Salai one lane was kept for those who came to garland the Thevar statue at Nandanam.
It was pointed out by a resident from Alwarpet that despite a lane being earmarked for those who came to garland the statue, the entire Chamiers Road was occupied by them. This created issues for the movement of vehicles like cars etc.
