Just about a year back, the vehicle drivers were able to drive their vehicles easily near the Virugambakkam signal near Vembuli Amman Temple. Now, things have changed due to the metro train construction works here.
The vehicle drivers have been finding it difficult especially along the stretch between Alwartirunagar and Saligramam on the Arcot Road due to the heavy traffic congestion. It must be taken into note that the pillars for the metro train works are not yet fully constructed here.
Reckless driving by the motorists was also another reason for the traffic congestion here. This was mentioned by frequent road users in Virugambakkam. He spoke about how the road from the Virugambakkam signal branches into a road leading to Koyambedu market on one side and to Nesapakkam and K.K. Nagar on the other side. Information is that there are 2 schools, one college, a hospital and a cinema theatre here.
It must be noted that the traffic signal is operated manually by the traffic police as it was not pre programmed for larger intervals. This was as per the traffic police personnel. He added that there was peak hour traffic plus congestion in the noon time due to the children leaving their schools. In the past here, there would not be even a single traffic police personnel but now there are 3 traffic police personnel busy with their traffic controlling duties. As per a resident, the worst affected were the MTC buses that take a lot of time to move through the stretch of Arcot Road.
