Northern districts, including Chennai, are expected to experience continued wet spells and thunderstorms for the next week, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai. P Senthamarai Kannan, director of the Area Cyclone Warning Centre, noted that rainfall and thunderstorm activity are being driven by a cyclonic circulation over coastal Andhra Pradesh and increased moisture levels. While rain will persist, it is anticipated to diminish gradually from mid-month.

Daytime temperatures in Chennai and its suburbs are forecasted to drop slightly, with highs of around 33°C and 34°C, respectively, over the next two days. Extended predictions suggest near-normal to above-normal rainfall for northern districts, while other regions of Tamil Nadu may see below-average rainfall.

Fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into the Gulf of Mannar, the south Tamil Nadu coast, and the adjoining Comorin area until September 8 due to expected squally weather and wind speeds of 35-45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph.
