The North East Monsoon 2024 has proven to be one of the best in recent years, with most districts in Tamil Nadu receiving above-normal rainfall.
Districts like Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, and Dharmapuri, which usually average around 300mm during the monsoon season, recorded nearly 500mm of rainfall.
Chennai experienced a well-distributed monsoon with rainfall spread across all three months (October-December), accumulating over 1000mm for the season. This marks the city’s fifth consecutive year of remarkable monsoons, a streak that began in 2020.
The Mettur Dam, nearing its full capacity of 120ft, also received substantial inflows during this monsoon, ensuring a positive outlook for agriculture and water supply.
