We are in the third week of the month of January and still the rains have not left us completely. The weather has been cold in Chennai and the residents have been finding it difficult.
On Sunday, 11th January, there was light rainfall in localities like Royapuram, Velachery, Ekkattuthangal, Porur, Guindy, Alandur, Broadway and Kodambakkam etc in Chennai.
It is now mentioned that the mild rainfall is likely to be there for another 2 days and this would be due to the cyclonic circulation over southwest Bay of Bengal. The maximum temperature would be around 27 degrees Celsius in Chennai.
The light rains that happened in the above mentioned localities resulted in reduction in the maximum temperature by 2.4 degrees and 2.2 degrees in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam respectively. Point is that Nungambakkam recorded 27.1 degrees Celsius and Meenambakkam recorded 27.5 degrees Celsius.
The cyclonic circulation over the east Sri Lanka coast and adjoining SW Bay of Bengal would be responsible for the rains to continue in some places in Chennai and its suburbs for the next 2 days. In the next 2 days or 48 hours, there would be a further dip in the maximum and minimum temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees than the normal.
For the next 2 days, coastal districts like Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthrurai and Pudukottai are likely to get heavy rainfall. This is due to the weather system prevailing over the sea. Light to moderate rains with thunderstorms would be present over the rest of TN.
