Classes begin for the MBBS Course at the new MMC (Madras Medical College) Building

Classes for the first year MBBS Course were commenced in the new MMC building costing Rs.60 Crores and located near Chennai Central Railway Station in the earlier Central Jail location.

For the present, only academic classes will be conducted in the new building. The practical and laboratory classes will continue in the old building. The examination hall, and the subjects of medical science, diagnostics, microbiology, law-based medical science and social medical science will be taught in the new building. 

The library is located on the first floor and the main examination hall in the sixth floor.Dining rooms and the restrooms will be located on the ground floor. 

There will be 8 rooms for faculty members, and 8 laboratories in the building. The office of the college principal is located on the second floor. Latest construction techniques have been adopted and the classrooms have no pillars. Each floor has a space of 43,000 sq ft.

Government has accorded permission for building a women’s hostel at the cost of Rs. 20 Crores to accommodate 450 girl students. This 4-Storeyed building will have 150 rooms. The construction will commence shortly.”
