What is the most common habit of using water bottles? You take it, fill it with water, sip it until last drop, get it refilled, sip again, and the cycle repeats. Of course, drinking water is too good to our health. One has to consume at least 1.5 to 2 ltr of water in a day. So, to make it a habit, having a water bottle handy is what we commonly do. However, do you know that the water bottle you use may be harmful to your health not just in the aspect of the toxic plastic, but more. Whether it is a stainless steel plastic or glass or any other material other than plastic, you ought to wash it every single day and sanitize it every single day too.

Do you know why? There is moist environment prevailing inside water bottles. This will serve as an excellent ground for bacteria to thrive. This can cause diarrhea or vomiting in us. This makes proper cleaning imperative.

The right cleaning method

For bottles with a cap or straw, you also need to clean those individual parts. Give it a thorough cleaning using toothbrush or water bottle cleaning brush, because bacteria such as e-Coli tend to enter your gastroenteritis and cause food poisoning when those are kept unclean.

It is always best to wash water bottles using warm water or dishwashing liquids. Get a soapy water ready and using this, clean the sides, edges and bottom of water bottle using a brush and get it thoroughly rinsed till the soap gets completely washed off. Dry off the bottle in upside down position and with a paper towel, wipe it all around and dry it out. In case you find soapy water uncomfortable or effortful, you may switch to vinegar as disinfectant. Leave it overnight inside the water bottle and rinse it in the morning.

With these little efforts, you can ensure proper hygiene in using water bottles and the water you drink throughout the day!
