Various reasons for poor gut health and ways to improve it

How many of us know that diseases start at gut and maintaining the gut health is very important for any individual?

By serving both as a channel for the nutrients as well as the barrier to the entry of harmful germs, gut plays a huge role in us. Gut is also called as gastrointestinal tract or GI and it has mouth, oesophagus, stomach, intestines etc. When the gut gets affected by disease then it could lead to loss or lack of essential substances such as vitamins, proteins etc. Triggering of our immune system could also take place and this could lead inflammatory response. It is worthy to note that problems in gut health take place when unwanted bad bacteria overpower the good bacteria present in the gut. There would be overgrowth of bad bacteria in the gut and this could result in imbalance between the good and bad bacteria in the gut.

There are few symptoms of poor gut health and these are bloating, diarrhoea, food allergies, anxiety, depression, mood swings, eczema, diabetes, autoimmune diseases etc.

These are the various reasons for the poor gut health in us.

Avoid the use of antibiotics:

This could be one cause for the poor gut health in us. It is said that by avoiding the use of antibiotics we could avoid issues in our gut. The intake of antibiotics could result in destruction of both bad as well as the good bacteria in the gut. After the intake of antibiotics it is good to use a probiotic.

Intake of certain foods:

It is known that our food these days has got lots of sugars and carbohydrates. It is brought out that most bad bacteria in the gut are some form of yeast and the yeast thrives on sugar. Hence foods having sugars and carbohydrates should be avoided by us.

Avoid more usage of NSAIDS:

Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAID could prevent the growth of healthy bacteria and results in leaky gut. Few examples of NSAIDS are asprin, advil etc

Increased level of hormones in us:

The growth of bad bacteria and finally poor gut health occurs when the hormones become elevated in us. It is now said that this could be noticed during pregnancy or while taking birth control pills etc.

Certain environments:

Many do not know that fact that living in certain environments could cause poor gut health. Few examples like damp, foggy climate, presence of fungus or mould etc.

Lowering the stress levels in us:

By lowering the stress in us our gut health could be improved as stress is main reason for many issues in us including gut health. It is said that by walking, meditation, massaging, mingling with friends and family etc could lowers stress in a person and improve his/her gut health.

By getting enough sleep:

Getting good and sufficient sleep is very important for our overall health is known. Our gut health could also be improved by sleeping well for a time of 7 to 8 hours.

By staying hydrated:

Many of us do not drink enough water and this could result in dehydration etc.  Beneneficial effect on the mucous lining of the intestine as well as the balance of good bacteria occurs when we drink water. Healthy gut results from staying hydrated.
