Risks of lung attacks gets reduced by vitamin D supplements

There are many people who have got COPD or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases in them. It is worthy to note that this COPD is a type of obstructive lung disease with long term breathing issues and poor airflow. Patients with COPD would show symptoms like breathing difficulties, cough with sputum etc. The shocking piece of news gathered was COPD worsens with the passage of time as it is a progressive disease.

According to the latest study it is revealed that in those patients with COPD intake of vitamin D supplements could reduce the risk of potentially fatal lung attacks. Research was conducted by Queen Mary University of London. From the study it was concluded that the oral use of vitamin D supplements led to 45 % reduction in the lung attacks in the COPD patients who were vitamin D deficient.

Head researcher, Adrian Martineau, Queen Mary University of London, spoke about how vitamin D supplementation was safe and how it just cost few amount to supplement a person for a year. He explained about how this is potentially high-cost effective treatment that could be targeted at those people with low vitamin D levels in them after routine testing.

The information collected was for the study purpose team included as many as 469 patients across 3 clinical trials in UK, Belgium and Netherlands. It was revealed that the supplementation did not influence the proposition of participants having severe adverse events. Safeness regarding the treatment was proved by the study. In patients having higher vitamin D levels in them no benefit was observed.

The point is more than 170 million all over the world are affected by COPD and in the year 2015 3.2 million deaths took place due to this issue. Adrian Martineau later spoke about the importance of treatments that are needed to prevent COPD attacks.
