It is reported that more than 2 million individuals suffer from autism in India. Exact statistics is not available.
The awareness about autism is less even among the doctors and then, the parents. The situation is worse in India as compared to other countries. Within India, the situation is even worse in South India as compared to North India. Again, among the tats of South India, the state of Tamil Nadu is the worst off.
Autism affects the skill to understand the signals received from the brain. Autism affects functions like seeing or observing and listening and thus changes the behavioural pattern.
Early detection of autism and administering certain exercises can help good progress. Possibilities of 100% cure exist with early detection and regular exercises. Further, there are possibilities that the autism-affected child could be a genius. Please note that autism does not have any bearing on intelligence.

- Failure to indicate their preference using the index finger
- Even if they are able to do certain things, they may not be aware about the social significance
- No sense of fear or danger
- No interest in games & repeating certain activities
- Tendency to take the elders by hand to indicate their preferences
- Tendency to get extremely sad and incessant crying
- No awareness of pains & aches or even failure to feel pains
- Marked by unusual activities – like clapping or jumping
- No interest shown to learn with normal teaching methods
- Dislike being touched or hugged
- Expecting that the daily routines should be same – not liking any changes made in the routine
- Repeatedly telling some meaningless words
- Spinning objects and enjoying it & getting deeply absorbed in it.
