Durian fruits sold on advanced registration

Durian fruit has a sweet smell and tastes even sweeter. There is a heavy demand for durian. It is being sold on advance booking by the government fruit orchard in Mettupalayam, Coimbatore District.
Duriam plant’s leaves have medicinal properties.
Durian fruits originate from Malaysia. It is grown in a few mountainous ranges in India. In Tamil Nadu, durian is grown in Kallar and Parliyar regions in Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district.
These durian trees were planted during the British reign. They have now grown to be more than 400 inch tall and yield hundreds of durian fruits.
However, it is rather difficult to climb these trees to pluck durian fruits.We have to wait till the fruit is ripened and fall on its own and collect.
Durian appears like a small jackfruit with thorns. Once broken, there will be 4 pieces of the fruit inside.
There is a strong belief that parents without children over a long period can take these fruits when there are better chances to conceive. So, there is a huge demand for durian fruits which are available only for a few months in a year and that too, in limited quantities.
