Marundeeswarar Temple

Believed to have been built in 7th century, during Chola period. An ancient temple, situated on the road to Mahablipuram , 3 kms from Adayar. Just adjacent to Thiruvanmiyur bus terminal. The presiding deity is Marindeeszwarar. Marundu in Tamil means Medicine and Marundeeswarar means Easwaran [Siva] as Physician . The temple has been renovated in 1903 and 1970. This is one of those visited by great Tamil saints Thirugnanasambandar, Thirunavukarasar, Arunagirinathar and the author of Ramayana Valmiki. There are Lingams here which are said to have been worshipped by Anjaneya, Saint Bharadwajar,The Gopurams and the sculptures are simply marvelous; reflect extraordinary skills of Chola period artisans. The five ponds in the temple complex are Janmanasini, Kamanasini, Papanasini, Gnanadhayini and Mokshadhaynini.

Time : Morning 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. Evening 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
