Passport to be processed in 3 days without Police verification

Chennai Regional Passport Officer Mr. Balamurugan explained that arrangements are made to issue passports to the individuals who had applied on Tatkal system within 3 days without police enquiry.

There is another arrangement already in process where the individuals who had applied for passport on Tatkal system after paying Rs. 3500/- are given passports.

Currently, if the application for passport is submitted with copies of Aadhar Card, Voter ID Card, and a self-declaration that the applicant has not been involved in any legal case (as per annexure-1 form, passport will be ready in 3 days without any police verification.

However, if it is found later that the applicant had been involved in legal cases, stringent action will be taken. A charge of Rs. 1500/- would be applicable.In future, the enquiries are proposed to be conducted online. 

The Police enquiry/verification will be conducted using the App - online mobile App.

The current applicants will be given a date for interview online. For the public benefit, henceforth, 5 days will be given for interviews. The applicants can choose any of the convenient dates out of the 5 given.

The special camp organised for the persons who lost/damaged passports during the recent flood is scheduled to close on 7th February.

So far, 4000 individuals have been issued passports free of charge.1.2 Crore persons have been given passports during the year 2015 throughout the country.

With this figure, India has secured the 3rd position in the list of countries with maximum passports.

10.8 lakh persons have been issued passports in the state of Tamil Nadu. Within India, this is the 4th position.

2 additional counters have been set up in all passport service centres from July last year.
