Rains to reduce on deepavali day in Chennai and to continue again

The festival of deepavali is round the corner and the whole of Tamil Nadu is gearing up for this amazing festival of lights.

On Wednesday, Chennai and its suburbs received light rains in the morning and occasional heavy rains in some places. This rain might be there for the next 2 days because of a trough or elongated area of low pressure closer to the coast. This was mentioned by some weathermen.

This time deepavali falls on 14th November and it is now revealed by some private forecasters and weather bloggers that the rains might reduce on the deepavali day. On the next day that is on 15th November, the intensity of the trains might increase.

Over some places in Chennai, IMD has predicted thunderstorms with intermittent rains heavy at times. The condition of the sky would be cloudy in Chennai city for the next 2 days. 

Chennai would have a maximum temperature around 28 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature around 24 degrees Celsius. For 13th November, IMD has issued warning regarding heavy rains with thunderstorms in Chennai plus in various places like Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur and Mayiladuthurai.

Trough of low pressure over southwest Bay of Bengal extending from Sri Lanka to north TN coast would be responsible for heavy rains. This was brought out by Mr. Balachandran, deputy director general of IMD. He hinted about the presence of moderate rainfall in many places in the coastal districts plus in the interior regions in TN for the next 2 days.

Chennai and its suburbs might receive heavy rainfall at times. Continuous light rains and heavy downpour was witnessed on Wednesday morning in many parts belonging to Chennai city. 

Till 8:30 am Meenambakkam received 15.6 mm rains and Nungambakkam received 18.3mm rains. Then from 8:3am till 5:30 pm, Meenambakkam registered 26.8mm rains and Numganbakkam registered 29.6mm rains. Localities like Aminjikarai and Choolaimedu received light rains around 8:30 pm in the evening.

In the next 24 hours, there might be heavy to moderate rains in TN and many places might have light to moderate rains. There might be heavy rains in the interior districts too. This was as per SkyMet Weather prediction. 

Chennai might have rains in the early morning on the day of deepavali. The rainfall intensity might reduce as the day progresses. There might be heavy rains in Chennai on 15th and 16th November. This was pointed out by the Chennai weather blogger Mr. Pradeep John.
