The year 2025- Amavasya (New Moon) dates, time, rituals & their significance!

'Amavasya' is a Sanskrit word that refers to the lunar A phase of the New Moon. The Hindu Almanac or calendar uses 30 Lunar Phases. Called 'thithi' in India.

In Hindu culture and beliefs, the New Moon Day or Amavasya 2025 is considered to be of Great Power. Most of the Amavasya 2025 days are considered to be inauspicious except for the Karthika Amavasya, the day New Moon occurs in the month of Karthika celebrated by the Hindus as the world-famous Deepavali or Diwali festival.

Every month, the New Moon Day is considered sacred - especially for the worship of the forefathers and performing Poojas for them. The dark fortnight of the Ashwin month (September-October) also known as Ashwin Amavasya 2025 is considered as especially sacred and offering oblations to the departed forefathers.

Amavasya falling on Mondays also known as Somawar Amavasya 2025 have a special significance in the Hindu Reigion. It is believed that a fast on these
particular Amavasyas would ward-off widow-hood in women and ensure bearing of progeny.
