...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

  • Whether you are new to Chennai and want to visit Mamallapuram or simply want to visit the sun-kissed shores of the temple sea, the Hop On Hop Off buses provide a comfortable and reasonably priced means of getting there. The Hop On Hop Off tour buses, are big blue air-conditioned buses, that provide a link from the city to Mamallapuram for foreign tourists and Chennai visitors looking to get to the temple city on a reasonable allowance. The bright blue 18-seater buses look spacious and can boast of spacious seats, two per side, and an LCD television installed in them.

  • Travel Details :These buses travel everyday from Tourism Complex, near Kalaivanar Arangam, to the Five Raths area at Mamallapuram. If you miss your bus, fear not! You will only have to wait an hour reading a book or catching up on the phone: the buses travel with one hour’s frequency from 9 AM till 4 PM. The buses pass through Kamaraj Salai, Adyar Depot, Thiruvanmiyur and ECR before heading out to Mamallapuram. The bus will stop at Marutheswarar Temple (Thriuvanmiyur), amusement parks like VGP, Mayajaal, MGM, and other locations that will interest tourists like Dakshinachitra, the Muttukadu Boat House, the Crocodile Bank, the Sea Lion show and the Tiger Cave.

  • Added Benefits : As these buses were conceptualized by the Tamil Nadu Tourist Department, they also arrange for concessions to be offered for passengers at various tourists spots like MGM, Crocodile Park and Dakshinachitra.

  • Timings and Charges : From Mamallapuram the buses depart every hour starting from 11 AM till 6 PM.

  • The Hop On Hop Off tour buses charge Rs. 150 for a day, a price that includes travelling to Mamallapuram and back within the day. For a one-way ticket they charge Rs. 100. Tickets can be bought on arriving at the stop itself.

  • So leave your car behind, and slip into the bus for a scenic drive in one of these air-conditioned buses. And yes, be wary that there have been complaints of buses coming in late though.
