Eco Friendly Environment- Operation of LNC/CNG gas powered bus between Chennai & Trichy!!
A sensational piece of information regarding the operation of gas powered buses between Chennai and Trichy!!
The news is that SETC or State Express Transport Corporation has launched the operations of LNG or liquefied natural gas/ CNG or compressed natural gas powered buses between Chennai and Trichy.
It must be taken into note that various transport corporations in TN have been operating few buses fuelled by LNG/CNG on a trial basis. The buses powered by LNG/CNG would be environment friendly. Gas powered buses have been introduced for long distance routes for the first time.
It must be recalled that in June month TN transport minister Mr. S.S. Sivashankar flagged off the trial operation of LNG/CNG buses. It was mentioned that the state transport undertakings wanted to reduce operational costs and emissions from the buses running on diesel.
Currently, 14 buses powered by LNG/CNG are operational and this includes one bus from MTC also. The important piece of information is that about 27% of expenses incurred by the transport corporation account for diesel consumption. Seven to twenty percent of the total expenses would be saved by the TN govt by operating gas powered buses. The carbon footprints of the state transport dept would be reduced.
