Applicants upset to know that application Fee for SET is triple the fee for NET

The application fees for the SET Examination (State Eligibility Test) for Assistant Professors have shot up suddenly.

When the applicants came to know that the application for writing SET is 3 times more than NET (National Eligibility Test), they were really shocked.

SET examination is for the State level and the application fee for this has been suddenly increased. NET examination is for National Level. So, when the applicants became aware that State Level exam costs 3 times more than the national level, naturally, they were extremely upset.

A pass in the SET & NET is compulsory to apply for the posts of Assistant Professors in various universities. NET was conducted by UGC. Now, it is being conducted by CBSE.

The application fee for NET was fixed at Rs. 500/-. Now, it has been increased to Rs. 600/-.

SET is being conducted on behalf any particular university at a state level. For conducting SET, permission from UGC is required.

SET (State Eligibility Test) for 2016 is scheduled to be conducted on behalf of Kodaikkanal Mother Theresa Women`s University.SET is scheduled on 21st February.

Applications for this SET can be sent till 10th February. However, the fees for this SET is fixed at Rs. 1500/-.

For backward & most backward communities, it is fixed at Rs. 1250/-.For SC/ST, it is Rs. 500/-.

As the fee is triple as compared to NET, applicants are extremely upset.
One of the professors from a private college explained on this issue that only UGC is giving permission to conduct both NET & SET. With this background, charging Rs. 1500/- for SET while the fee NET is only Rs. 500/-, is absurd. When the last SET was conducted in 2012 on behalf of Coimbatore Bharathiyar University in 2012, the fee was Rs. 1000/-. Now, this has been increased by further Rs. 500/-. This rise would especially affect the poor people. So, the concerned universities must come forward to reduce the fee for SET.

However, the Registrar of Mother Theresa University Ms. N. Kala explained that the fee for SET has been fixed on the basis of the previous years. Hence, there is no need to reduce the same.

UGC Vice President Mr. H. Devaraj explained that permission has been granted to conduct SET this year. However, the decisions taken by Mother Theresa University have not yet reached UGC. So, they are not aware about the fee details. Once the details are received, suitable enquiry will be made and corrective action will be taken if required.
