Among the applicants for VAO posts, 992 candidates are Ph.D. holders

Information is gathered that among the candidates who have applied to write the TNPSC Group-4 tests conducted recently, 992 applicants have completed Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy).
Over 85 Lakh candidates have registered in the Employment Exchange Centres of the Tamil Nadu state government and waiting for jobs.
Though a substantial percentage of these candidates have completed 10th Standard or +2, there are other candidates, who have completed graduation, post graduation, diploma courses, engineering degrees, M. Phil., and Doctorates.
The recent written test conducted by TNPSC for Group-4 cadre has opened up a topic for a special analysis.
TNPSC announced the dates for the Group-4 cadre examination during last November. The examination was for the recruitment of 494 VAOs (Village Administration Officer), 4349 Junior Assistants, 230 Tax Collectors, surveyors, draughtsman, 3463typists, and 815 stenographers for a total of 9351 vacancies.
The minimum qualification for the above list of posts is a 10th Standard completion. 2083152 candidates had applied, Out of this, 2069274 applications were accepted.
The written test was conducted on 11th February. It was stated that around 3 Lakh applicants failed to attend the examination. In the next phase of correction of the answer-papers, information was gathered that 992 applicants were doctorates (Ph. D. holders).
Further, 23000 applicants had completed M. Phil. 2.5 Lakh applicants are postgraduates. 8 Lakh applicants are graduates.
TNPSC circles informed that the number of candidates with the minimum required academic qualification of a pass in the 10th Standard or +2 was very less. Out of the graduates, 620000 applicants were non-engineering graduates.
Apart from the above TNPSC examination, the number of candidates who were doctorates or M. Phil. was quite high even for the examinations conducted by the Uniformed Services Recruitment Board for the jobs in police, fire-fighting, and prison departments.
