These day’s people do many things and grab the eyeballs. A boy named Chitresh from Chennai of age just 16 is now making news and is spoken in high esteem by many for his sensational efforts.

Hong Kong Race Week 2018 took place from 20th February 2018 to 25th of February 2018 is well known. Many sailors participated in this event and showcased their talents. This 16 year old Chennai boy Chitresh took part in this event and won prestigious silver medal in the Laser 4.7 class.

At the age of 10 when most of us would be involved in other activities such as playing with our friends, attending family functions etc this Chitresh was different. When he was just 10 he took up this sailing seriously and did superbly.

His hard work coupled with dedications has now paid off and he was spoken by many in the recent event in Hong Kong. This boy shared his thoughts and said in the initial stages he was so afraid to go near water and he also avoided going to beach. One day he and his sister came across a newspaper having a piece of news about sailing and that was the turning point in his life.

Chitresh also spoke about how at the beginning his sister joined the training for sailing and he just accompanied her in a motor boat. It must be noted that trainer of his sister threw him into the water and from there after his fear for water was no more and he became confident.

It is amazing that he first sailed when he was just 9 years old but he did not take that sailing seriously. Later he took part in a sailing competition in Mumbai at the age of 10 and from then onwards his interest in sailing grew. This Chitresh has grown to become India’s best sailor in the Optimist category speaks volumes of his talent and skill.

In the year 2014, this Chennai boy Chitresh made many heads turn when he took part in the Asian Games held at Incheon. He was the youngest contestant from India in that event and he stole many hearts with his superb performances.

This Chitresh later upgraded to Laser class sailboats and this recent silver medal which he got in Hong Kong has been his first international acclaim in the Laser category and that is remarkable.

When questioned about his toughest sailing Chitresh said the sailing he did in Netherlands was difficult because of the heavy winds there. Chitresh spoke about the training he is doing now for getting selected to represent India in the Asian Games 2018. He thanked his coach Mr D.P. Selvam for his encouragement, tips etc.

It is interesting to note that Chitresh doesn’t have time to attend school and hence he took up open schooling. It is superb to mention that he trains for 68 hours every day and out of those 8 hours he spends four hours in water and another four hours of fitness training.
