Chennai Corporation raises the Swimming Pool Hourly Charges

Chennai Corporation has three swimming pools in the city that charges very less amount as fees compared to other private swimming centers. Being a pre-summer season the swimming pools run by the state are already flooded with crowds. In the weekends the number of people coming to the pools are going haywire in an uncontrollable 2000 people per given holiday.
Now the Chennai Corporation has officially announced the hike in swimming pool prices in its three centers. Earlier it was Rs 15 for an hour and now the new charges will be Rs 50 for an hour which received lots of negative feedbacks from the users. Government run entertainment and recreational facilities are very low in number when compared to the City’s costly theme parks and other centers.
So the increase in charges came as a big blow for those who enjoyed the swimming pool on regular basis. Marina Swimming pool and My Ladies Park Pool will soon collect the revised charges.
On the contrary the Government officials strongly believe that the number of users of the swimming pool will only increase in the coming days. Marina Pool is 100 meters long, opened between 5.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. There are seven lifeguards and three Coaches for the summer camp. However My Ladies Park swimming pool is not conducting any special summer camp, opened in the time zone of 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. and from 4.45 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Children from the under-privileged background and Special Children use the Swimming pool of My Ladies Park. So the users and public demand another revised charges keeping this in the mind.
Swimming Pool Contractors requested the Corporation to place advertisements around the Swimming pools as they are affected by the loss happened during the floods of December 2015. This arrangement is also shelved due to the interference of Madras High Court in giving space allocations for advertisements. Now the contractors inform that the charges will be reduced if the Advertisement permit is given again for running the pools with some steady income.
