Anna University has introduced many examination reforms

Posted on: 12/Nov/2018 10:22:01 AM
One of the premier educational institutions in India is AU or Anna University and this AU is present in Chennai. The news is many examination reforms has been introduced by this Anna University in the aftermath of the revaluation scams. These reforms include distribution of answer keys, striking down of blank pages, cross checking 30% of evaluated answer scripts etc.

For their alleged role in the evaluation scam, former controller of examinations, G. V. Uma and other faculty members were suspended is known. It must be taken into account that an internal committee was formed to probe and it found that the answer scripts of the students were manipulated at the evaluation centres. It was found out that the answer scripts that were given to the students had 44 pages and those students who were involved in the scam left the last two pages of their answer scripts blank. This made the scamsters to fill up these pages with relevant answers during the evaluation process. New assessment schedule was introduced by AU and according to this all the unwritten pages of the answer scripts must be struck out by the students. Those answer scripts having blank pages would not be collected by the examination hall supervisors. One important point is a proposal has been made to remove the front page of the answer scripts before these answer scripts are handed over to the evaluating faculties.

A senior official from AU spoke about the front page that contains student register number and the number of pages answered by the student. He later explained that by removing the front page of the answer scripts the evaluator would not know the student identity and this could prevent them from filling additional answers. Anna University pointed out that the answer keys to all the subject question papers were given to faculty so that the number of students applying for the revaluation could come down. This was present in the affidavit submitted by AU to the court.  At least 30 percent of the answer scripts evaluated by the examiners must be cross checked by the chairman of the evaluation centre. It is important to note that the number of examiners under a chairman has been reduced from 17 to 10 now. According to the affidavit submitted by AU it is clear that answer scripts with a difference of more than 15 in the original and the re-evaluated score would be scrutinized. For the controller of the examinations to finish the re-evaluation process, a 40 day deadline has been set and the results would be released through websites and text messages.

It must not be forgotten that as many as 1070 faculty members awarded illegal marks for the students during evaluation and action was taken against these members.
