In Chennai, the MRTS commuters would be able to do this in the future

Once the proposed 500 m link between St Thomas Mount and Adambakkam in the phase-2 extension is constructed, the commuters would be able to travel on the elevated structure. Point is this elevated structure would be built right under the viaduct of metro rail line.
It must be taken into account that metro rail as well as MRTS lines would run at 2 levels in a single elevated corridor on the stretch. To minimise land acquisition, CMRL has got plans to build a single structure for both MRTS and metro between Adambakkam and St Thomas Mount.
It is revealed that the metro line would be part of 118.9 km corridor 5 that runs from Madhavaram and Sholinganallur. At a height of 27m from the road, metro line would be making its presence felt.
Information collected is coinciding with the existing Alandur station and to Inner ring road via St Thomas Mount as a double elevated structure, the stations planned as a part of corridor 5 would be running. It is revealed that from St Thomas Mount the CMRL proposes to follow the same alignment as that of proposed MRTS to link Adambakkam. The substructure for MRTS and for the elevated corridor 5 in the section might be constructed together with common or alternative pier arrangement to minimise land acquisition.
As per the CMRL’s DPR of phase-2, the alignment would continue with different heights on one side up to Adambakkam. By this construction would be easier, faster and cheaper. It is said that CMRL would take over MRTS operations. For the last 8 years, the land acquisition has already stalled the construction of 500 MRTS line part of Velachery -St Thomas Mount corridor is known.
For the takeover of MRTS operations, CMRL is in talks with the southern railways. Information is after taking over CMRL proposes to change the rolling stock or trains to integrate with the metro rail.
Metro stations have been planned close to the present MRTS locations in various locations and this would be in the phase-2. The various locations are Perumbur, Mandaveli, Greenways Road, Mylapore, Thiruvanmiyur etc. Pathways, skyways and pedestrian subways would link the 2 facilities.
