Tamil Nadu Chief Minister flags off the Hyundai Electric car Kona car launch!

The Hyundai Electric car, named Kona, was introduced on 9th July.

The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, E. Palaniswamy, inaugurated the launch of India’s 1st Electric car, Hyundai Kona, with a flagging-off ceremony.

Hyundai Kona has been introduced at a price of Rs. 25.30 Lakhs. It has the pride of place of being the first-ever electric car being introduced in India.

Hyundai Kona almost resembles the shape of Hyundai Creta. Along with a thin and mild LED light-fitting, the special unique identity of Hyundai cars, the grill bumper has been fitted on the front bonnet.

The interiors of Hyundai Kona is done in an extremely superb aesthetic and attractive form. It has got most of the latest hi-tech features including a 7” infotainment touch-screen, smartphone connection, Apple carplay, and Android Auto.

The navigation items are also of the latest hi-tech category.

Other features include wireless phone charging and an air-conditioner which functions only while the car is running.

Kona has a 39.2 kWh Lithium battery which takes 6 hours to get fully charged. Once charged fully, it can travel up to 452 km.

Additional wall-chargers can be offered as per the buyer’s preference.

The price of the wall charger ranges from Rs. 70000 to Rs. 1 Lakh.

With the A. C. charger, the vehicle can be charged for an hour and with that, it can travel up to 50 km. A portable charger of 2.8 kW is also supplied with Kona.

In order to facilitate charging stations, Hyundai is to set up electric charging centres in a joint arrangement with Indian Oil Corporation.

In the 1st Phase, the charging stations will be installed in the cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai.

Kona India comes with a 100 kW motor with 131 bhp capacity and 395 Nm torque.

4 driving modes are available - Eco, Eco plus, Comfort, and Sport.

The maintenance cost of Hyundai Kona will be far lesser than the petrol-driven cars.

With the offer of Government subsidy being available and also because of the huge popularity and the attraction for the electric vehicles, over 100 buyers have booked Hyundai Kona within 10 days after the introduction.

Hyundai has decided to manufacture 500 cars per year in the 1st Phase in its Chennai manufacturing plant.
