Good news for Metro city residents - Anna Salai back as old after CMRL project completion!

There is some cheerful news for the Chennai Metro City citizens! - Following the completion of the works of the CMRL (Chennai Metro Rail Ltd) project, the city’s arterial and nerve-centre road, Anna Salai, is all set to return to the normal old condition!
The CMRL proect was initiated with the main objective of reducing the heavy traffic congestion in the Chennai Metro City.
Accordingly, CMRL project commenced and is in progress since 2009. There are 2 corridors - Chennai Airport to Washermanpet and Chennai Central Railway Station to St. Thomas Mount.
Out of this, the works on the sections between Koyambedu to Chennai Airport and Koyambedu to Washermanpet have been completed and the public service has started.
Meanwhile, work was also in progress in the 12-km section covering Anna Salai LIC, Thousand Lights, Anna Flyover, DMS, and Nandanam. Because of this Anna Salai had to be rendered as a 1-way road from the year 2012.
The road leading from Anna Salai to Gemini flyover was closed and the vehicles were diverted to General Patters Raoad and the vehicle drivers had to undertake the route via Whites Raod and Satyam Theatre Complex to Ana Salai. This put the vehicle drivers to great hardships.
Further, the Chennai Metro City resident public was also hugely affected with this project activity and the heavy traffic congestions.
Presently, all the project activities in Anna Salai have been completed. Subsequently, Anna Salai is all set to return to the old normalcy, routine, and routes being opened again! Thus, Anna Salai, which was rendered as 1-way traffic since 2012, is all set to return to the 2-way road. So, the vehicle drivers plying in Anna Salai can proceed to drive as per the old routes - no diversions or ‘round-about’ routes anymore!
This is indeed very cheerful news for the Chennai Metro city residents!
