First e-bus of Chennai to go between Tiruvanmiyur and Central station for 4 times

The good news for the residents belonging to the Chennai city is the newly launched electric or e-bus would shuttle 4 times in a day between Tiruvanmiyur and Chennai Central station that is twice each in the morning and in the evening.
This air-conditioned e-bus was built by the popular Ashok Leyland for MTC and an amount of Rs 1.5 crores has been spent on it is known. It must be noted that this electric bus could run up to 200 km in a day and 32 passengers could travel sitting and 25 passengers could travel standing.
The ticket prices would be similar to what MTC buses charge for the deluxe services and the amount would be between Rs 11 and Rs 25.Swapping technology would be put into use in this electric bus and here the drained batteries would be replaced by fully charged batteries at the end of every trip. Charging station has been set up at Central depot n Pallavan Salai and the empty batteries would be charged here.
It was mentioned by an official belonging to MTC that charge that is left on the battery would be reflected in the drivers control panel and if the battery level drops beyond the reserve then the driver could get the help from the headquarters. He added that tracking would not be an issue as the electric bus has got GPS plus an advanced I-alert system. He shed light on how this situation would seldom arise as the length of the trip is only 30 kms.
Information is the capacity of the battery is 40 km per trip.It is worthy to note that the e-bus would run on an automatic transition model and in the cases of emergency the fire deduction and suppression system would be helpful. Foot board travelling in the e-bus is prevented by means of automatic doors fitted with pneumatic systems at both the ends and accidents would be reduced to a huge extent.According to Mr. Karthik, head of e-mobility at Ashok Leyland, e-bus could travel easily through bridges and rough terrains due to the fact that the power carrying capacity of the bus 300 HP or horse power that is higher than the diesel buses of 180 HP.
Automated Research Association of India or ARAI guidelines have been used to construct the electric bus and the e-bus completed its first trip along the scheduled route on Monday evening with more than 45 passengers including 30 journalists.
