Dismantling the structures on properties in Kottivakkam, Sholinganallur etc- Widening of ECR in Chennai!!

The widening work of the stretch from Thiruvanmiyur and Akkarai along the ECR or East Coast Road in Chennai is moving in the right direction now. Point to be noted is that tenders have been floated for shifting the electric poles and transformers etc. It is now said that the contractors who win the bid would get about 3 months to complete the work.
The Highways dept is now busy playing its role in dismantling the structures on the properties acquired in places like Kottivakkam, Palavakkam and Sholinganallur etc. On these stretches, SWD would be built by the contractors once the buildings are removed. This is explained by a source. It added that in those places where buildings have been removed drain construction is going on now.
The presence of a large number of land parcels has been an issue regarding the acquisition of lands for the 6 lane project and this land acquisition issue has been there for more than a decade. In the first phase, widening of the stretch in Kottivakkam and Palavakkam would be completed first. In the next phase, the 6km long stretch in Sholinganallur would be completed next. The busy pedestrian movement has led to issues in driving the vehicles on the entire stretch.
As per the resident from Palavakkam the road was not uniformly wide with some reaches narrow and others wide. He hinted that there would be fast and safe vehicle movement if the widening works gets completed.
