With the inauguration and operation of the new "Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus" at Kilambakkam by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, State Transport Express buses, including those heading to South Tamil Nadu, now commence their services from this new terminus. As a result, passengers are required to travel an additional 30 km to reach Kilambakkam to board their buses, in contrast to the previous terminus at Koyambedu. To address this inconvenience, the State Express Transport Corporations officials have implemented a fare adjustment system.

Passengers discovered that they need to cover an extra 30 km to access the Kilambakkam Bus Terminus compared to the previous Koyambedu Terminus. Consequently, the fare difference is now being adjusted after the journey and credited to the passengers` bank accounts. Immediate feedback prompted a modification in the procedure, instructing conductors to provide the balance amount in cash to passengers.

Presently, a rate of Re. 1/- per km is applicable for ultra-deluxe express buses designed for long-distance travel. For air-conditioned buses featuring sleeping berths, the fixed rate is Rs. 1.50 per km.

Considering the additional 30 km traveled by passengers for their express bus trip, fares have been reduced by Rs. 30/- to Rs. 60/- for long-distance travel. This discount ensures that passengers undertaking long-distance journeys benefit from the adjustment in fares due to the shift in bus terminus to Kilambakkam.
