Park Town MRTS Station Resumes Operations for Commuters

Posted on: 11/Nov/2024 11:43:00 AM

Operations at Park Town railway station have officially resumed from today, November 11, 2024, for suburban trains on the Chennai Beach - Velachery MRTS (Mass Rapid Transit System) route. This development means that MRTS trains traveling between Chennai Beach and Velachery will once again halt at Park Town station, a key link for many commuters accessing the nearby Moore Market complex and Dr. MGR Chennai Central railway station.

Previously, despite services resuming on October 29, 2024, along the Chennai Beach - Velachery line, MRTS trains bypassed Park Town station due to ongoing construction at the site.

The MRTS service on this route was initially suspended in August 2023 to facilitate the construction of a fourth railway line between Chennai Egmore and Chennai Beach stations. During the 14-month disruption, MRTS trains operated only between Velachery and Chintadripet, leaving passengers reliant on alternative transport, such as MTC buses and auto-rickshaws, to reach Chennai Central.

With today’s reopening of Park Town station, the complete MRTS route is restored, including the intermediate stops between Chintadripet and Chennai Beach: Park Town and Fort.

This update is expected to ease travel for thousands of daily commuters in Chennai, enhancing connectivity within the city.
