CMRL Clarifies Public Restroom Access at Metro Stations!

Posted on: 01/Jul/2024 9:56:23 AM

The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has confirmed that the public can use restrooms at Metro stations, depending on whether the restrooms are located in paid or unpaid areas. This applies even to non-commuters.

Concerns were raised by passengers about whether restrooms at Metro stations could be used without riding the train. It was noted that some non-commuters had been buying Rs 10 tickets just to access the restrooms.

Savitha, a regular commuter at Tondiarpet Metro station, shared an incident where a woman purchased a ticket specifically to use the restroom. However, staff at Central Metro station stated that no such tickets were issued.

In response, CMRL clarified that they do not charge the public to use restrooms. Stations are divided into paid areas (accessible only with a valid ticket) and unpaid areas. While some stations have restrooms only in paid areas, where a Rs 10 ticket is needed, restrooms in unpaid areas are free to use.
