The MD of this hospital Dr. Prashanth Krishna spoke about how robotic surgery would provide the patients with many advantages like early recovery, less pain, less blood loss and reduced incisions etc. Point is that this hospital has added an indigenously developed robot.
It was later revealed by Dr. TS. Subbiah, consultant general surgeon, Institute for Robotic Surgery that surgical robotic system has head tracking safety features. It is noteworthy that the surgeon`s hand control provided tremor filtration and motor scaling. There are 4 robotic arms, an open design and surgical console, imaging and illumination equipment and other robotic instruments etc present in the robotic system. This was mentioned in the press release from the hospital.
The design of the system is in such a way that the safety of the patients has been given more importance and the head tracking monitor would pause control after the surgeons have moved.
According to the medical director of Prashanth Hospitals, Mr.Pari Muthukumar, precise handling of tissues would be possible by robotic surgery and by this the patients would have less pain. The doctors were of the opinion that robotic systems could be used in all surgeries like urology, gynaecology, general surgery, cardiothoracic surgery etc.
